Beskrivelse

Join this snorkeling trip with orcas in Norway, supervised by world class instructors. Morgan Bourc'his - 3 x world champion in freediving - and Sébastien Royer - explorer specialised in polar diving - honour us to share their knowledge about this unique underwater world!

These expeditions are open to everyone : beginner, experienced freediver or snorkeler, join with your family, friends or solo - everyone is welcome! It's not necessary to dive to join the adventure : photographers are also welcome to discover the fabulous landscapes of Norway in winter.

Program

Day 1 : pick-up in Tromsø at 08:00 and travel by minibus + ferry-boat. Arrival at our accomodation (genuine fisherman's house on the harbor) around 14:30. Briefeing about the stay and test-dives from the shore in the afternoon. First night on the island.

Day 2 to 7 : flexible program depending on weather and sea conditions. Early breakfast and weather update before going at sea. During the December week (together with Morgan Bourc'his) he will propose daily morning yoga (Pranayama initiation and stretching) as well as a work on several themas after the day at sea :

  • Swimming technics with fins
  • Ears equalisation
  • Breathing patterns
  • Physiology : diving reflex
  • Aspects of competitive freediving
  • Freediving and altered state of consciousness : an experience of oceanic feeling

Day 8 : last morning at sea. Packing and return to Tromsø in the afternoon.

Location

Based on a small island at the heart of Kvænangen fjord with only 15 inhabitants, we stay in an authentic fisherman's house right on the harbor (double bedrooms). Each day we will sail through the fjords, in search for orcas and whales. We head back to the harbour when the light disappears, and hopefully get to enjoy some Northern lights in the evening! Spildra has a unique cultural heritage linked to Sami and Viking people, which we propose to discover.

Ship

We spend the days at sea onboard our solid and comfortable expedition ship, a 17 meters steel hull built for the arctic. It provides a good shelter to warm up between the dives and enjoy a good lunch. Every day we spend 6 to 8 hours at sea through those amazing landscapes. Unlimited tea, coffee, soups and hot chocolates.

Weather

The fjords remoteness and potentially challenging weather conditions demand a flexible tour schedule.  We adjust the planning to the weather updates, forecast, wind and available daylight (between 9 and 14 approximately), starting early morning to spend a maximum of time at sea. Mountains are covered in snow, the average temperatures are 0° in the air and +6° in the water.

Equipment

Each participant comes with his own personal snorkelling equipment : diving suit, boots, gloves (rather 3 fingers), snorkel and belt. Leds can be provided locally. We recommend to use a freediving or hunting winter neoprene suit 7mm or more (2 pieces, prefer open cell), and long fins to be comfortable in the water.

Snorkeling

Some days there will be many possibilities to meet the animals, some other days not : nature rules! We only set in the water when the situation allows, and we make a point to follow strict rules for a respectful approach of marine mammals, as well as not disturbing the local fishing activities.
