One of the biggest gathering of Orcas and Whales in the world!

Every winter, Northern Norway transforms into a breathtaking wildlife spectacle! Thousands of herring attract one of the largest gatherings of orcas in the world, and you can witness 50 to 60 of these majestic predators swimming together in their natural habitat. But the adventure doesn’t stop there—we also sight humpback whales, fin whales, and even mighty sperm whales. More than a destination; it’s a front-row seat to one of nature’s most spectacular shows!

Every year in November

Weather permitting, and based on your preferences, we may spend a few nights onboard, following the orcas and whales to the very spots where they feed. Their exact location in the fjord can never be guaranteed, but that’s part of the thrill—and we’ll do everything we can to bring you right into the heart of the action!

From our fjord-front house, where adventure meets comfort

The week is centered at our cozy house in Reinfjord, right on the fjord, with a sailboat at your doorstep and a private sauna to unwind after days on the fjord. Each day, we head out to sea to observe the orcas and whales in their natural habitat. Getting here is easy: fly into Tromsø, take two local speedboats (connection in Skjervøy), and you’re here!

Open to all, with Delphine as a skipper

We welcome small groups of 2 to 6 guests, with the option to privatize the week exclusively for your group. Our highly experienced crew is led by Delphine, former officer in the merchant navy, who has been skippering whale-watching and snorkeling tours in Kvænangen fjord since 2017.

Ideal for families and friends ; nature and wildife photographers

Join us for a week of exploration in these remote waters, searching for wildlife amid breathtaking scenery:  fishermen’s settlements framed by snowy peaks, and sunsets that light up the sky in unforgettable colours. We adapt our itinerary to the weather and the movements of the animals, so you can fully experience the incredible landscapes and fascinating wildlife that draw enthusiasts from around the globe.

As night falls, there’s a chance to witness the Northern Lights dancing overhead—a magical finale to each adventurous day. This trip is for nature lovers seeking something truly unique, wild, and beautiful.

Ethical encounters

Every encounter with whales and orcas is guided by strict ethical and local whale-watching guidelines. We keep a respectful distance to travelling and feeding pods, letting you witness these majestic creatures in their natural world without disturbing them. We only get in the water when they are static.

Just bring warm clothes and good mood! Sit back, relax, and get ready for an unforgettable experience - we take care of everything!

Getting to Reinfjord

Our Orca & Whale Expeditions run from Sunday to Sunday.

Reinfjord is a roadless village and can only be reached by boat.

Our recommended itinerary

  • Arrive in Tromsø on Friday or Saturday, depending on your flights.
  • Take the Saturday evening Hurtigruten or Havila coastal service from Tromsø to Skjervøy.
  • Stay overnight at Hotell Maritim in Skjervøy.
  • Take the local public boat from Skjervøy to Reinfjord on Sunday evening.

We welcome guests on arrival, and the expedition begins on Sunday evening.

Unfortunately, there is no option to arrive in Reinfjord earlier.

Alternative itinerary

Guests may also stay in Tromsø on Saturday and take the Sunday express boat to Skjervøy:

  • Tromsø → Skjervøy: approximately 14:30–16:35
  • Skjervøy → Reinfjord: approximately 19:00–20:00

This is often the simplest itinerary, although the express boat is generally more sensitive to winter weather than the larger coastal vessels operated by Hurtigruten and Havila.

Many guests choose this option without any problems, but we generally recommend travelling via Skjervøy on Saturday evening for a little extra flexibility in case of winter weather.

Return journey

The expedition ends on Sunday.

Typical connections are:

  • Reinfjord → Skjervøy: approximately 15:25–16:25
  • Skjervøy → Tromsø: approximately 16:35–19:50

We recommend spending Sunday and Monday nights in Tromsø and booking your return flight on Tuesday or later. This provides a comfortable weather buffer in case coastal transport is delayed.

Booking your transport

Use Svipper to check public boat timetables and plan your journey.

The local boat between Skjervøy and Reinfjord must be booked at least one day in advance. We therefore recommend booking all boat travel as early as possible.

Before booking, you are welcome to send us your flight itinerary. We will gladly check your connections and recommend the best route. A quick email can often save you a long journey later.

Important Arctic travel information

Winter weather can occasionally affect coastal transport in Northern Norway.

All guests are required to have comprehensive travel insurance covering at least:

  • trip cancellation and interruption
  • travel delays and missed connections
  • medical expenses
  • emergency assistance and repatriation

If coastal transport is disrupted, we will do our best to help coordinate the most suitable alternative where possible. Any additional travel or accommodation costs remain the responsibility of the guest and should be covered by personal travel insurance.
