Beskrivelse

During this trip, the dog-teams bring us to remote mountains with great skiing possibilities!

Each skier has his own team of 5 / 6 dogs, a sled packed with equipment and everything needed for a week in autonomy in the mountains. We travel trough our National parks, at the heart of the Arctic : one of the biggest wilderness area left in Europe, that extends over the Swedish and Finnish borders.

We adjust our schedule to the weather & snow conditions, and spend the nights in mountain huts, tents or reindeer herders cabins, at the foot of virgin mountains!

We travel between 20 and 50 km a day by dogsled, and hopefully get to enjoy the Northern Lights! Although the area is experienced as an untouched and raw wilderness, it has been the seasonal home of the Sami reindeer herders trough centuries. We will partly follow the old migration routes used by the Sami nomads. The mountains remoteness and potentially challenging weather demand a flexible tour schedule, and good physical shape of the participants.

On this tour the close cooperation between human and dog is essential! You will have your own dog team for which you are responsible, this includes harnessing and supplying the dogs.

In wilderness cabins, we sleep in mixed room with both gentlemen and women. The cabins are heated with wood, they have no electricity nor running water. When we sleep in tents, we have a stove and use sleeping mats and warm winter sleeping bags. Dry toilets are available at the cabins, but at the tent-camp we dig a toilet in the snow. No former dogsledding experience is required, but you must appreciate animals, and feel compassion for them!
